ST Telemedia Global Data Centres published its 2025 ESG report showing it surpassed its 2028 carbon intensity target three years ahead of schedule. The company reported 83.2% renewable energy usage and a 70.5% reduction in carbon intensity from its 2021 baseline. Average power usage effectiveness improved to 1.44, down 13% from 2020, while water usage effectiveness improved by 41.2%. The Singapore-based data centre operator says it is integrating sustainability into capital allocation, site selection, and operations as AI workloads drive demand growth. The company aims for carbon-neutral operations by 2030. 48% of its data centres now hold green building certifications. The report also noted zero work-related fatalities across 41 million hours worked and 100% employee completion of anti-corruption training.

83% renewables and hitting a 2028 target three years early is solid. Would like to know how much of that renewable energy comes from PPAs versus RECs though.

Good point. Also curious about the PUE of 1.44. That is decent but not best in class. Some hyperscalers are running below 1.2 now. Depends on climate and cooling tech I guess.

70.5% carbon intensity reduction from 2021 is impressive but intensity metrics can hide absolute growth. They did mention 15.2% year on year drop in absolute scope 1 and 2 which is more meaningful.

Exactly. If they double their data centre footprint the intensity metric gets diluted. Need to watch absolute emissions trajectory as AI workloads scale. The 2030 carbon neutral claim will depend on that.

41% improvement in water usage is notable. Data centres are getting heat for water consumption in water stressed regions. Would be good to know which markets those improvements came from.
