St. Albert MP Michael Cooper pushes to scrap industrial carbon tax as Parliament resumes
stalbertgazette.comSt. Albert-Sturgeon River MP Michael Cooper says affordability, jobs, and the economy are the Conservative priorities as the House of Commons returns for its fall sitting. Cooper called for removal of the industrial carbon tax, calling it a hidden tax, and wants the federal fuel excise tax suspension extended beyond the current plan. The government has already suspended the consumer carbon tax and extended the fuel excise tax suspension to January 2027, but Cooper wants further action. The industrial carbon tax, also known as the output-based pricing system, applies to large emitters and is less visible to consumers than the consumer carbon tax. Cooper argues it raises costs for businesses and ultimately for Canadians. He also continues to advocate for Brian's Bill, which would limit parole hearings for convicted murderers, and serves as vice-chair on the Procedure and House Affairs Committee.
