SSEN Transmission has announced plans for a new £150m training facility in Aberdeenshire to support the next generation of electricity network engineers. The facility is part of a wider £29bn investment programme to upgrade the north of Scotland's high-voltage transmission network for clean energy delivery. The training hub will host hundreds of trainees each year, providing hands-on experience for operating and maintaining the grid. It complements the existing Faskally Training Centre in Perth and is expected to open in the early 2030s, subject to planning approvals. The facility will also support a just transition by helping workers in high-carbon roles retrain for low-carbon careers. Public consultation events are planned for 2026 to shape the design. The project follows SSEN Transmission's commitment to recruit 600 earn-as-you-learn roles by 2030, reflecting the scale of workforce expansion needed to meet the UK's renewable energy targets.
