Srinagar is upgrading its urban water infrastructure through AMRUT 2.0 projects. A key development is the construction of a 7 MGD Activated Carbon Chamber at the Nishat Water Treatment Plant, designed to remove organic compounds, odors, and colors from the water supply. These upgrades include the transition to advanced multi-barrier treatment systems and the installation of rapid sand filtration plants. The projects aim to secure reliable, high-quality drinking water for over 6.5 lakh residents, with several components scheduled for completion by late 2026.
