Sri Lanka has announced a 13% emission reduction target for its industrial sector, doubling its previous commitment. The policy was unveiled at the Sri Lanka Climate Summit 2026, organized by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. Environment Minister Dammika Patabendi stated the target is a foundation for the country's goal of 70% renewable energy by 2030 and full carbon neutrality by 2050. The announcement emphasizes coordination between policymakers, financial institutions, and industry leaders to turn climate pledges into bankable investments. The government is also expanding waste management reforms and integrating informal waste collectors into the formal green economy as part of broader circular economy efforts.
