Scaled back usually means the energy requirements or the capex were too high for the initial model. I wonder what the actual power draw is for this pilot and if they have a dedicated renewable source or if they are just hitting the grid.
The energy source matters, but the 45Q tax credits are the real driver here. If the scale is too small, they might not hit the thresholds needed to make the economics work without heavy subsidies.
Another DAC pilot. It is good to see a move toward commercial testing, but the term scaled back is a red flag. We need to see the actual tonnage of CO2 they expect to capture per year to know if this is a real proof of concept or just a small demo.
