SPIC ships 3,750 tons of green ammonia to South Korea in record export for China's green fuel sector
chinadaily.com.cnState Power Investment Corp (SPIC) has completed China's largest single-batch export of green ammonia, shipping 3,750 metric tons from Lianyungang Port to South Korea. The ammonia was produced at the world's largest single-unit green ammonia plant, which started operations in July 2025 and is backed by 800 MW of renewable energy capacity. The facility can produce 32,000 tons of green hydrogen and 180,000 tons of green ammonia per year. SPIC says this is the first time Chinese green fuel has gained international market recognition based on full lifecycle carbon reduction. Compared to coal-based synthetic ammonia, the shipment avoids over 10,000 tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to the annual carbon sequestration of about 1 million trees. Green ammonia serves both as a clean fuel and a green industrial feedstock, making it a key area in the global low-carbon transition. The milestone signals that China's wind-solar-hydrogen-ammonia industrial chain has moved from technical demonstration to large-scale international commercial delivery. This could have implications for global green fuel markets and carbon accounting standards.
