Researchers at the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) have developed a new catalyst that converts captured carbon dioxide and hydrogen directly into liquid hydrocarbons like gasoline and naphtha. This process simplifies the traditional two step method by removing the need for extremely high temperatures, reducing energy consumption and production costs. The team has successfully operated a pilot facility producing 50 kg of fuel per day. They are now planning a commercial scale plant with a target capacity of 100,000 tons per year. When paired with renewable energy for hydrogen production, this Power-to-Liquids technology could provide a sustainable alternative to imported fossil fuels.
