South Korean regions launch climate consultative body to coordinate carbon neutrality efforts

Daejeon City, Sejong City, Chungcheongnam-do Province, and the Daejeon Regional Meteorological Administration have formed a climate consultative body to address climate change. The group held its first joint forum on June 24, 2026, bringing together experts from government agencies, research institutes, and civil society to discuss regional cooperation on the climate crisis and carbon neutrality. The forum featured expert presentations on climate scenarios, adaptation infrastructure, and carbon neutral policy strategies. A comprehensive discussion followed with nine experts from organizations including the Korea Meteorological Administration and the Korea Institute of Environment. The second part of the event focused on a carbon neutral campaign to promote practical actions among residents. The initiative aims to connect scientific climate information with local policy and civic engagement, positioning the Chungcheong region as a testbed for collaborative climate action.
