South Korea Public Procurement to Boost Renewable Energy with K-RE100 Marks and Green Incentives
en.sedaily.comSouth Korea's Public Procurement Service (PPS) and the Korea Energy Agency signed an MOU on July 28, 2026, to accelerate the renewable energy transition through public procurement. Starting August 2026, companies that used renewable energy in 2025 will get a K-RE100 mark on the Nara Marketplace platform, making it easier for government buyers to identify green suppliers. From 2027, companies that significantly increase their renewable energy use compared to the prior year will be exempt from the minimum green standard requirement for procurement market entry. This policy uses public purchasing power to create demand for renewable energy among suppliers. It is a concrete step to support South Korea's carbon neutrality goals by rewarding companies that adopt clean energy. The MOU also includes a data-sharing system between the two agencies to track and verify renewable energy usage. While the announcement is positive, the actual impact will depend on how many suppliers participate and how the exemption criteria are defined.
