South Korea National Parks Carbon Map Shows Forests Absorb 2.02 Million Tons of CO2 Annually

After accounting for soil emissions, the net ecosystem uptake is 2.02 million tons per year. The research uses fixed survey plots with tree growth measurements and soil respiration data to calculate actual carbon reduction. Sobaeksan National Park has the highest net uptake at 325,000 tons annually. Total carbon stored in vegetation across all parks is about 205.55 million tons, with an additional 130 million tons stored in soil. The study provides granular data on how individual tree growth translates into landscape-scale carbon sinks over decades.
