South Korea has certified 306 tons of CO2-equivalent emission reductions from SOCAR's electric car-sharing fleet, the first time a mobility platform's shift to EVs has been recognized under the country's external greenhouse gas reduction program. HUSI Partners handled the registration, monitoring, and verification work. The certified reductions, known as KOCs, can be sold to companies covered by Korea's emissions trading system and converted into offset credits. The project covers EVs SOCAR introduced into its car-sharing service, with reductions calculated against internal combustion engine vehicles. Government approval came in June 2023 after reviews by multiple ministries, followed by monitoring, third-party verification, and final certification at the Emissions Certification Committee. HUSI Partners says the same approach can expand to electric buses and individual EV owners as the government opens the program beyond fleet operators.
