South Cambridgeshire District Council has opened applications for its Zero Carbon Communities grant scheme. The program provides funding for community projects that reduce carbon emissions and support nature recovery, with a total commitment of £152,000 for the current year. Individual projects can apply for grants up to £19,500. Since its inception in 2019, the scheme has funded 82 projects and distributed over £855,000 from the council's renewables reserve to drive local climate action.

The issue is usually the procurement rules. These small pots often go to the groups that know how to write the application, not necessarily the projects with the highest carbon displacement per pound.
