South Africa is working toward a 2030 target of limiting greenhouse gas emissions to 420 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. Recent data suggests the country is currently on track to meet these goals, supported by the Just Energy Transition Partnership. To accelerate the shift away from coal and petrol, South Africa recently secured a R3.8 billion loan from Germany. This funding aims to scale up wind and solar energy deployment to reduce the heavy reliance on fossil fuels, which currently drive over 80% of the nation's emissions.
