Sony UK TEC Hits GBP 1 Million Solar Energy Offset Milestone After a Decade of Onsite PV Investment
businessnewswales.comSony UK Technology Centre (UK TEC) announced it has generated the equivalent of GBP 1 million in energy offset value from its onsite solar photovoltaic installations at its Pencoed manufacturing facility in Wales. The milestone comes more than a decade after the first solar panels were installed in 2014, with five phased projects now supplying between 21% and 26% of the site's annual electricity needs. Each phase has achieved its return on investment ahead of forecast, with early installations paying back in four to four and a half years and newer projects on track for around three and a half years. Rising energy costs helped the company reach the GBP 1 million mark earlier than expected. The phased investment strategy allowed Sony UK TEC to spread costs over several years while steadily increasing renewable generation. The company credits the Welsh Government's supportive policy environment for enabling confident investment in low-carbon technologies. Sony UK TEC now aims to increase onsite generation to cover 100% of the facility's electricity requirements. The complete solar programme is projected to achieve full return on investment by FY28, after which the panels will continue producing clean electricity for many more years. The facility also won Champion of Champions at the Green Apple Environment Awards last year.
