Solar-powered e-bike charging station opens at Kelowna International Airport to support green travel
similkameenspotlight.comKelowna International Airport has launched a new solar-powered e-bike charging station at the corner of Airport Way and Aerospace Drive, adjacent to the Okanagan Rail Trail. The station includes four charging ports, an air pump, and a bike repair stand, with plans to expand to eight ports. It is designed to serve cyclists using the rail trail and airport visitors, supporting low-carbon transportation options. The airport is working toward carbon neutrality by 2030 and net zero operations by 2040. It already holds Airport Carbon Accreditation Level 3 and has tracked its greenhouse gas emissions since 1997. The new emergency and operations facility opened in March is fully electric, showing a broader commitment to electrification and emissions reduction.
