Dr. Dia Milani of CSIRO is developing solar-powered carbon capture (SP-CC) to decarbonize heavy industries like chemicals and minerals processing. Unlike traditional solar-assisted methods that rely on plant steam cycles, SP-CC decouples the process to use solar energy directly, reducing inefficiencies and carbon footprints. This approach focuses on process intensification to turn carbon emissions from a liability into a resource. Through collaborations with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the research also explores carbon mineralization for permanent storage.
