Solar panels installed at Leamington and Kenilworth public buildings cut carbon and energy costs

Warwick District Council has installed solar photovoltaic panels on two public buildings in Leamington and Kenilworth as part of its plan to decarbonize municipal assets. At Castle Farm Leisure Centre in Kenilworth, 177 panels will generate around 80,000 kWh of electricity per year, cutting carbon emissions by 21 tonnes annually. At the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington, 62 panels will produce about 22,000 kWh yearly and save 3.5 tonnes of carbon emissions. The council used an innovative vertically mounted panel array at the Royal Spa Centre to work around structural roof constraints. Combined, the two installations are expected to reduce energy bills by roughly £14,000 per year. The project shows how local authorities can use targeted solar investments to lower both emissions and operating costs on existing buildings.
