Solar and battery upgrade at Scottish Fire and Rescue HQ cuts grid use by a third
scottishconstructionnow.comRobertson Facilities Management has completed a 340 kWp solar PV array and battery storage system at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service headquarters in Cambuslang. The installation is expected to generate around 296,000 kWh of renewable electricity each year, cut carbon emissions by roughly 70 tonnes annually, and reduce grid electricity use at the site by more than a third compared with the same period last year. RFM has been SFRS's hard facilities management partner since 2022 and ran the project across the live operational site. Estimated annual savings are over £63,000, with a forecast payback of just over five years. The battery lets the site store surplus solar power for higher demand periods, supporting SFRS's goal of reaching net zero by 2045.
