Smoltek joins MAXBATT consortium to scale carbon nanofiber battery production with Scania and Volvo

Smoltek Nanotech has joined the MAXBATT consortium, a Swedish industry group led by Chalmers University that includes Scania, AB Volvo, Volvo Cars, RISE, and Lulea University of Technology. The group works on scaling sustainable battery production. Smoltek brings its carbon nanofiber technology, which is used as a conductive additive in electrodes to improve performance and support fast charging. The membership gives Smoltek access to joint research projects and industrialization pathways. The company's vertically grown carbon nanofibers are designed to reduce carbon loading in electrodes and work with existing slurry-based manufacturing, which matters for gigafactory scale production. The consortium is funded by the Vastra Gotaland Region and focuses on production technologies, digitalization, and circular processes for lithium-ion and emerging battery chemistries.
