Researchers have proposed a Smart, Hybrid, Integrated, and Engineered Geothermal (SHIEG) framework to eliminate diesel dependence in remote communities. By combining geothermal baseload power with wind, solar, and thermal storage, these systems create a resilient local grid capable of managing intermittent energy sources. A techno-economic study focused on northern Canadian Indigenous communities suggests these integrated systems can significantly lower electricity costs compared to diesel. The framework uses machine learning and real-time sensors to optimize heat extraction and energy distribution, providing a scalable model for off-grid decarbonization.
