Sligo County Council wins Energy Management Award for carbon cutting and power savings
independent.ieSligo County Council has won the Energy Management Award at the Ulster and Connaught Regional Optimising Power at Work Awards. The award recognizes organizations that go beyond managing their own energy use to inspire and influence others. The council was commended for developing, sharing, and scaling energy-saving initiatives across its operations and the wider community. The council's work on Building Management Systems (BMS) was highlighted as a standout initiative. A site-specific manual for County Hall delivered significant energy savings in its first year and was then rolled out to other buildings. The council also ran an insulation roadshow to help local homeowners improve efficiency. The Optimising Power at Work programme, led by the OPW, supports public sector organizations across Ireland in cutting carbon and improving energy performance.
