Sleepeezee cuts factory carbon emissions by nearly 50% exceeding climate targets

British bed manufacturer Sleepeezee has reduced absolute carbon emissions from its Rochester factory by 49.8% since 2018, well ahead of its own targets. The company cut emissions while growing turnover by more than 60%, leading to a 68.44% drop in carbon intensity per million pounds of turnover. Sleepeezee also sends zero waste to landfill and has reduced gas and electricity use per million pounds of turnover by 9% and 4% respectively compared to last year. The company incorporates recycled content into its products, with mattress springs containing 25% recycled material on average and comfort layers using recycled plastic. Its take-back scheme recycles between 50% and 93% of returned mattresses, with the remainder converted to energy. Sleepeezee is also expanding biodiversity areas at its site and pursuing Planet Mark certification for the eighth consecutive year. The results show that emissions reduction and business growth can happen together in manufacturing.
