SkyNRG and KLM have started construction on DSL-01 in Delfzijl, the first facility in the Netherlands fully dedicated to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production. The plant is expected to be operational by 2028, producing 100,000 metric tons of SAF annually from used cooking oil and residual fats using the HEFA pathway. This project is notable for securing non-recourse project financing, supported by a long-term offtake agreement from KLM. It also received a 16 million euro subsidy from the European Just Transition Fund to support the regional shift away from fossil fuel extraction in the Northern Netherlands.

Good to see a plant moving from a slide deck to actual construction. KLM providing the offtake guarantee is what made the financing possible. Without those long-term contracts, these projects just don't happen.
