Skyline Tower Becomes First Existing Private Building to Join Hong Kong's Kai Tak District Cooling System
bastillepost.comHong Kong's Kai Tak district cooling system is getting its first existing private commercial building. Skyline Tower, managed by Sino Property Services, will switch from its own central air conditioning to the district supply under a letter of intent signed with the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department. Officials expect the move to cut electricity use and carbon emissions from the building by at least 20 percent, and free up rooftop space for solar panels and greening. The building will still need to submit a formal application under the District Cooling Services Ordinance. The Hong Kong government says it will announce an enhancement scheme this year with technical, tax and gross floor area incentives to encourage more district cooling and centralized cooling systems. The Skyline Tower case will be a useful test of how existing buildings can connect to district networks.
