SK Nexilis carbon-coated copper foil targets 2027 for silicon anode and dry electrode batteries
digitaltoday.co.krSK Nexilis has developed a high-adhesion carbon-coated copper foil aimed at next-generation battery manufacturing. The coating is designed to stop anode materials from peeling away from the copper foil, a problem that becomes more common as battery makers add silicon to anodes. Silicon expands during charging and discharging, so stronger adhesion is needed to keep electrodes stable and extend battery life. The company says the foil is also suited to dry electrode processes, which avoid liquid solvents and reduce manufacturing cost and energy use. SK Nexilis plans to build a pilot production line and verify process stability before targeting commercialization in the second half of 2027. The technology is relevant to battery makers working on high-silicon anodes and dry electrode manufacturing.
