Sizewell C commits to low-carbon construction and diesel phase-out for contractors
constructionenquirer.comSizewell C has signed the Construction Leadership Council's Five Client Carbon Commitments, putting carbon performance into its procurement for the nuclear project. The pledges cover phasing out diesel-powered site plant, cutting high-carbon concrete and steel, and asking suppliers to back product claims with emissions data. Contract awards will now weigh carbon-cutting proposals more heavily. The developer has not yet published specific deadlines or material carbon limits, so the practical requirements for contractors are still unclear. Sizewell C says contract incentives and PAS 2080-aligned carbon management will be part of the approach. It has already agreed to reuse more than 15,000 tonnes of demolished concrete from the neighbouring Sizewell A site as foundation platform material, reducing demand for fresh aggregate.
