Sir Robert McAlpine Installs 5,792 Unitised Façade Panels at 2 Finsbury Avenue with Lower-Carbon Design

Sir Robert McAlpine has completed the installation of 5,792 unitised façade panels at 2 Finsbury Avenue in London's Broadgate estate. The project, developed with British Land and designed by 3XN, uses a sawtooth-shaped envelope with lower-carbon aluminium and high-performance glazing, plus passive ventilation to cut energy use. The unitised panel approach improved quality control and allowed for a custom crane solution that kept installation efficient and safe. The building targets BREEAM Outstanding, WELL Platinum, EPC A, and NABERS 5-Star ratings, aiming to set a new benchmark for sustainable commercial workspace. With 750,000 sq ft of mixed-use space, the project highlights how complex façade engineering can deliver both architectural identity and environmental performance. Completion is expected in 2027.
