SINTEF has partnered with Power to Hydrogen to install a 0.5 megawatt AEM electrolyzer at its research facility in Tiller, Norway. The system will produce renewable hydrogen to be combined with captured carbon dioxide, creating a carbon-neutral pathway for manufacturing acetone. This project is part of the EU funded PYROCO2 initiative, which aims to prove that captured CO2 can be economically converted into industrial chemicals at scale. The AEM technology is specifically chosen for its ability to handle the variable power loads typical of wind and solar energy sources.
