Singapore's Energy Market Authority is launching a feasibility study to determine if geothermal energy can help decarbonize the nation's power sector. The study will evaluate the technical and commercial viability of next-generation geothermal systems, following discoveries of high underground temperatures in Sembawang and Admiralty. Currently relying on natural gas for 95 percent of its energy, Singapore is exploring geothermal, hydrogen, and carbon capture to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. The government aims to identify if subsurface heat can provide a stable and economic source of baseload power.
