Singapore is implementing new emission limits for commercial refrigeration and vehicle air conditioning systems to reduce the use of high global warming potential hydrofluorocarbons. Starting July 2027, new centralized commercial fridges must meet a GWP cap of 150. Passenger cars and light goods vehicles will follow the same standard by July 2028. These regulations align Singapore with standards in the EU and Japan. To prevent business disruption, the rules apply only to new equipment, allowing existing systems to remain in use until the end of their service life. The National Environment Agency is also tightening registration and disposal rules for firms dismantling these systems.
