Singapore Indonesia leaders retreat 2026: cross-border electricity, carbon capture, and low carbon energy deals on the agenda
businesstimes.com.sgSingapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will meet Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on July 6 for the annual leaders retreat. The meeting will review progress on 19 deliverables signed in 2025, including agreements on cross-border electricity interconnection, renewable and low-carbon energy technologies, energy efficiency, and cross-border carbon capture and storage. These deals are part of a broader push to deepen bilateral cooperation on energy and climate issues between the two Southeast Asian neighbors. New agreements signed in the days before the retreat include cooperation on nuclear security and radiation protection, as well as a pact on environmental sustainability covering transboundary pollution, waste management, water and air quality, climate change, and workforce development for the low-carbon transition. The retreat will also explore further collaboration on these topics. For carbon market watchers, the progress on cross-border electricity trading and carbon capture frameworks between Singapore and Indonesia is worth tracking, as it could set a template for regional energy decarbonization.
