Singapore and Mongolia open carbon credit project applications on October 30 under Article 6 pact
news.cgtn.comSingapore and Mongolia will open applications for carbon credit projects on October 30 under a bilateral implementation agreement tied to Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The credits can be used by Singapore-based companies liable for carbon tax to offset up to 5% of their taxable emissions. This is Singapore's sixth bilateral agreement with an open application window, after similar arrangements with Ghana, Bhutan, Peru, Rwanda and Thailand. The two governments will review applications jointly on a rolling basis, which gives project developers a recurring path to authorization rather than a one-off window. For carbon market watchers, the key question is how Mongolia's projects handle baseline setting and corresponding adjustments. If the methodologies hold up, this could add real supply to Singapore's compliance market. If not, the 5% offset cap means buyers will stay selective.
