Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has invited Laos' new Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith to visit, citing strong bilateral ties. The two countries are expanding cooperation on energy, carbon credits, and transnational crime, with the Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS) as a key example. The LTMS project, launched in 2022, allows Singapore to import hydropower from Laos through Thailand and Malaysia. It represents one of the first multilateral power trading arrangements in Southeast Asia and supports regional grid connectivity. Both governments are also working together on carbon credit frameworks, though details on volumes and mechanisms remain limited. Singapore has also pledged continued development support through training programs, marking 25 years of cooperation with Laos. The visit invitation signals momentum for deeper engagement on energy and climate-related initiatives.
