Singapore and Indonesia are close to finalizing a bilateral carbon credit partnership under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Singapore's Minister Grace Fu confirmed progress in negotiations, and Indonesia is preparing to launch its Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK) on July 9, 2026. This would allow the transfer of internationally verified carbon credits between the two countries. Indonesia's Environment Minister Moh Jumhur Hidayat emphasized that benefit-sharing with local and Indigenous communities is a priority. The deal would make Indonesia the latest Southeast Asian nation to sign a carbon credit framework with Singapore, following similar agreements with Thailand and the Philippines. Investors from Singapore are reportedly ready to participate in carbon trading once the registry goes live.
