Singapore Airlines Signs Offtake Deal for Next-Gen SAF from Waste Carbon
futuretravelexperience.comSingapore Airlines has agreed to buy up to 4,800 tonnes of next-generation sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Aether Beacon over three years, with deliveries starting in 2028. The fuel will be produced at Project Beacon in Singapore using Aether's Aurora technology, which converts waste-derived carbon feedstocks like biomethane and industrial waste gases into aviation fuel. This is the first airline purchase from the facility and the first time SIA has contracted SAF from this production pathway. The deal is a signal of demand for alternatives to the HEFA route, which depends on lipid feedstocks that are harder to scale. The SAF will be CORSIA-certified, and Aether plans to build a larger plant by 2031 with at least ten times Beacon's capacity. For SIA, the agreement supports its net zero 2050 goal, though 4,800 tonnes is a small fraction of its total fuel burn. The value lies in creating the commercial certainty needed to bring new SAF technologies to scale.
