Signify expands smart LED lighting in Mexico with Queretaro Aqueduct project, targeting 80% energy savings and lower carbon emissions
mexicobusiness.newsSignify is expanding its smart lighting business in Mexico, pushing connected LED systems that can cut electricity use by up to 80% compared to older lighting. The company says these systems use automation and motion sensors to dim lights when streets are empty, which also helps reduce light pollution that harms birds and insects. The push aligns with Mexico's environmental law LGEEPA and includes a target to help customers save 60 terawatt-hours of energy globally by 2030. A key example is the Queretaro Aqueduct, where Signify installed a connected lighting system across 1.2 kilometers. The system allows remote management so the monument's historic look is preserved while still improving safety and energy use. The company also runs circular economy programs like Signify Circle and myCreation, which use 3D printing and bio-circular materials to cut waste. At its Mexican plants in Apodaca, Monterrey, and Camargo, Signify says it saves over 490,000 kWh per year and avoids about 247 metric tons of CO2 annually through efficiency measures.
