Shyam Sel and Power Limited, a subsidiary of Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited, has commissioned an 8.90 MWp solar power project at its manufacturing plant in Jamuria, West Bengal. The project is split into 4.60 MWp under a CAPEX model and 4.30 MWp under an OPEX model, with the power used for captive consumption to cut operational costs and carbon emissions. This is part of the company's broader push to integrate renewable energy into heavy industrial operations. Shyam Metalics operates across steel, ferro alloys, aluminum, and stainless steel with a total installed metal capacity of 16.93 MTPA and 467 MW of captive power. The solar addition helps reduce reliance on grid electricity and lowers the carbon footprint of its manufacturing processes. For those tracking industrial decarbonization in India, this project shows how metal producers are blending ownership and third-party models to manage capital while shifting to solar. The location in West Bengal also adds to the region's growing renewable capacity for industrial use.
