ShEquity Supports Ghanaian SMEs in Accessing Carbon Markets

ShEquity has selected 10 Ghanaian SMEs to receive technical assistance for entering global carbon markets. These businesses, spanning renewable energy and sustainable agriculture, are being trained to develop Project Design Documents and align with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The program helps women-led and gender-smart enterprises navigate carbon certification processes through standards like Verra and Gold Standard. Two finalists will receive grants of 25,000 USD to finalize their carbon project documentation.

Good to see a focus on the actual paperwork side of carbon markets. Most SMEs have the tech but no clue how to write a PDD or navigate Verra. This is where projects usually die.

The list includes renewable energy and mobility firms. I wonder what the actual capacity additions are for the energy players. A 25k grant helps with a document, but doesn't solve interconnection hurdles.

Interesting to see energy efficiency on the list. Those projects usually have the hardest time proving additionality for carbon credits compared to just planting trees.
