Shell has built a compact electric vehicle concept that cuts lifecycle carbon emissions to roughly 10 tonnes of CO2, about half that of a typical EV today. The Triple 10 concept achieves 10 km/kWh efficiency and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in under 10 minutes on a standard 175 kW charger. The key is Shell Recharge, a dielectric thermal fluid that immerses battery cells and powertrain components directly, eliminating complex coolant systems and improving thermal management. Shell says the simpler design can cut battery pack costs by about 25 percent. The battery appears to be 34-38 kWh, yet delivers over 200 miles of range. Shell is not entering the car business, but using the concept to sell its thermal fluid technology to automakers. The pitch is that better cooling can unlock lighter, cheaper, and more efficient EVs without resorting to ever larger batteries.
