Shell and St. Paul's Hospital cut emissions with renewable diesel and EV charging in Hong Kong

The switch requires no equipment modifications and delivers up to 30% less lifecycle CO2e emissions compared to standard diesel. The hospital also installed two 50kW Shell Recharge fast chargers in its parking lot and joined Shell's CO2 Compensation Programme. This collaboration shows how existing infrastructure in hospitals can shift to lower-carbon fuels without major capital upgrades. For the healthcare sector, where boiler reliability is critical, the compatibility of renewable diesel with conventional equipment lowers the adoption barrier. The project supports Hong Kong's 2050 carbon neutrality target and offers a replicable model for other hospitals and commercial buildings looking to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
