The Shell Triple 10 Challenge Concept Car uses a new coolant fluid that flows through the battery cells, allowing faster charging without overheating. 10 minute charge is nice but 124 mile range is modest. That works for city cars but not long trips. Also curious what grid load a 10 minute charge pulls. If it needs a dedicated 350 kW+ charger that is a different infrastructure problem.

The smaller battery is the interesting part. Half the size means less lithium and cobalt per car. If the fluid cooling makes fast charging safe on a smaller pack that could lower material demand per vehicle. But 124 miles is still short for US or rural UK driving.

Worth noting Shell is behind this. They sell the coolant fluid. So the business model is selling consumables not just cars. That could push adoption if the fluid economics work for fleet operators. But the article does not mention coolant cost or replacement intervals.
