Shanghai has opened a new international certification centre for green marine fuels, aiming to strengthen its position as a low-carbon bunkering hub. The Green Marine Fuel International Certification System Affairs Center started operations alongside China's own GSTC certification system. The centre will verify the traceability, sustainability, and lifecycle carbon footprint of alternative fuels like green methanol and biofuels. 300k tonnes local production and 1m from elsewhere in China. That 'elsewhere' part is where the uncertainty lives. Green methanol and biofuels need feedstock and renewable H2. Where is that coming from and at what cost?

The green shipping corridor with LA and Hamburg is interesting. Those ports will need compatible infrastructure and standards. Certification is one piece but bunkering infrastructure and fuel availability are the bigger bottlenecks.
