Shanghai Electric's Hydrogen-Ready Turbines and Green Methanol Plans for ASEAN Energy Transition
bastillepost.comShanghai Electric presented three energy transition solutions at Enlit Asia 2026 in Jakarta, focusing on decarbonizing existing thermal power, modernizing island grids, and scaling low-carbon fuels. The High-Efficiency Power & Decarbonization suite includes gas turbines capable of 30% hydrogen blending and coal plant retrofits to cut coal consumption. For grid stability, the company offers synchronous condensers, flywheels, and multi-technology storage, plus plug-and-play solar-storage pods for remote areas. The Power-to-X line builds on its Jilin Taonan project, which has already bunkered 8,000 tons of green methanol. Phase II targets 200,000 tons of green methanol and 10,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel annually. Shanghai Electric is adapting these systems for ASEAN shipping and aviation markets, with existing projects in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam supporting its regional rollout.
