Shanghai Electric presents three ASEAN energy transition solutions at Enlit Asia 2026
macaubusiness.comAt Enlit Asia 2026 in Jakarta, Shanghai Electric detailed three offerings aimed at Southeast Asian power markets: high-efficiency thermal upgrades with hydrogen blending capability, grid modernization for island networks, and power-to-X systems producing green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel. The company cited its Jilin Taonan project, which has already bunkered 8,000 tons of green methanol, and a Phase II target of 200,000 tons annually by 2026. The solutions target specific regional pain points: reducing coal plant emissions, stabilizing grids with high renewable penetration, and cutting shipping and aviation carbon. Shanghai Electric also pointed to existing deployments in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam, including a 500 MW-class gas project in Sarawak. The presentation focused on execution details like turbine retrofits, storage integration, and fuel blending percentages rather than broad sustainability pledges.
