The project aims to plant 100,000 mangroves in Zhanjiang by 2030 to enhance coastal ecology and capture carbon. By May 2026, the program had planted nearly 20,000 mangroves. The company estimates these forests will offset a significant portion of its employees' domestic and international business travel emissions over a 25 year sequestration period.

Agreed. Planting trees is a good start, but the actual carbon credit value depends on additionality and permanence. It is a nice corporate social responsibility move, but we need the data to know if it actually moves the needle on emissions.
Mangroves are way more efficient at carbon capture than terrestrial forests. If they actually hit that 100,000 tree goal, the local biodiversity impact in Zhanjiang will be the real win here, regardless of the travel offset math.
