Seoul to Host 2027 World Steel Association Assembly as Korean Steel Pushes Low-Carbon Standards
mk.co.krSeoul will host the 2027 World Steel Association General Assembly, the first time the event returns to South Korea since 2005. The announcement came at the worldsteel meeting in New Delhi, where POSCO Group Chairman Chang In-hwa led the bid. Korea ranks sixth globally in crude steel output at 62.23 million tonnes, and has the world's highest per capita steel consumption at 844 kg. The assembly agenda is more than a status marker for Korean steel. Member companies discussed low-carbon product guidelines and international standardization of carbon emissions allocation methods. POSCO is also working on hydrogen-reduction ironmaking, a route to cut process emissions from steel production. Those topics will be in front of global steel CEOs when the assembly convenes in Seoul in October 2027.
