Sentosa, a 500-hectare island resort near Singapore, has become Asia's first island destination certified to Global Sustainable Tourism Council standards. The Sentosa Carbon Neutral Network, involving 21 businesses covering over 97% of the island's estimated carbon profile, is driving the goal of carbon neutrality by 2030. Renewable energy projects include solar panels, tidal turbines, and waste-to-energy systems, which could cut emissions equivalent to 300,000 hotel room nights annually. The island has eliminated single-use plastics at major venues, installed reverse vending machines for recycling, and uses digesters to divert food waste from landfills. Sentosa Golf Club, a three-time winner of the World's Best Eco-friendly Golf Facility award, uses biochar as fertilizer and lithium battery carts. Green transport options include electric shuttles, an electric monorail, and cycling trails. The island also hosts sustainability tours and art installations made from reclaimed wood.
