SEDA and Japan's NEDO Partner for Malaysia's First Zero Energy Office Building Retrofit in Cyberjaya

Malaysia's Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) has partnered with Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) to retrofit its Cyberjaya headquarters into the country's first Zero Energy Office Building (ZEB). The project will use Japanese energy-saving technologies, including high-efficiency building systems, Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS), and Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV), covering about 5,000 square meters. Four Japanese firms are involved: Pacific Consultants, AGC Inc, Mitsubishi Electric, and Azbil Corporation. The retrofit will also test the ISO/TS 23764 methodology for decarbonizing existing buildings. SEDA aims for the project to serve as a practical model for other building owners in Malaysia and the ASEAN region, proving that existing structures can be transformed into energy-efficient leaders. This collaboration highlights a growing trend of international partnerships to achieve building decarbonization goals. The project's success could influence broader adoption of zero energy standards in Southeast Asia, where many older buildings lack modern efficiency features.
