SeAH Steel has won a contract to supply about 1,750 tons of stainless steel pipes for a carbon capture and storage project in the Teesside region of the UK. The project, led by the British government, aims to capture CO2 from power plants and store it permanently in the deep sea. SeAH Steel's pipes will be used to refine and transport captured CO2 in gaseous and liquid states. The pipes are designed to withstand ultra-low temperatures of minus 196 degrees Celsius and high-pressure deep-sea conditions. They are produced in 12-meter lengths, twice as long as standard products, to reduce weld joints and improve process stability. The company sees this order as a stepping stone to secure more CCUS-related projects and strengthen its role in the global energy transition.
